Esquivel received the 2021 Zócalo Prize and was the 2025 Writer in Residence of Ypsilanti, Michigan. 

Her chapbook, A Casual Apocalypse in Acapulco, received the Prima Materia Award from First Matter Press. Her full-length poetry collection, Crying My Best, received the VersoFrontera Prize from Texas Review Press.
